(More customer reviews)This is a 58mm lens adapter for rectilinear lenses, and comes with a 52-58mm step up filter. The design is pretty much the same as the wide angle adapters available for camcorders, except that this is bigger in size. I used it with my Canon 18-55mm IS with a 58mm filter size. At a focal length of 50mm, this lens adapter converts to a 10mm equivalent lens, and 35mm is about the minimum you can go without getting the lens adapter barrel in the images. At 18mm you get the full 180-deg fisheye effect. It is heavy, but seems to work ok with careful handling. This will not work with lenses with filter sizes greater than 58mm (I tried with step down rings on my 67mm Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8).
My particular copy had a foreign element handing inside. The image quality at the center was acceptably good, but anything beyond the very center was extremely blurry and unusable. This one point alone makes this adapter useless for the purpose for which it was built, which is to be able to take good fisheye images. There is a high degree of CA as well, which is not unexpected with such lens adapters, but reasonably corrected with a tool like PTLens.
Before getting this adapter, understand what fisheye is used for - it is meant for a creative style of photography. I would not recommend this adapter only to get the 10mm focal length (equiv) using the Canon 18-55mm IS; save up for Canon's 10-22mm or equivalent. This adapter is ok if the only intent is to have total fun without caring about IQ or playing with this to get an idea of fisheye could be put to use, before moving up the ladder to a proper lens. The fun factor soon wears out when you start craving for IQ.
