(More customer reviews)I've never had an aversion to heavy gear, but my problem with this lens is that I am a little scared to put it on a tripod without a tripod ring. It does not appear that there is space for a ring and Tokina doesn't make one, but this lens I think would benefit. It is very very heavy.
Optically, for me, it's fantastic. I don't shoot resolution charts and then look at the 100% crops, I just look at my shots and decide if they are acceptable. It appears to be better even than the 11-16mm, optically speaking.
I love Tokina's AF to MF switch. Even without having full time manual override in the way that Canon or Nikon do it, it is very easy and intuitive to use.
I gave it 4 out of 5 because of the weight and the lack of ability to use any screw on filters. I knew that it would not accept filters when I bought it, but I still feel like it should get docked for that.

One-Touch Focus Clutch - Tokinas exclusive One-touch Focus Clutch Mechanism allows the photographer to switch between AF and MF simply by snapping the focus ring forward for AF and back toward the camera to focus manually. There is no need to change the AF/MF switch on Nikon camera bodies and there is no second AF/MF switch on the lens for Canon, everything is accomplished by the focus ring.
