Have not used them yet, but sometimes I like to fool around and take photos of insects or small objects where the limitations of this method don't matter. I also needed a 72mm lens cap which was included. Packaged in a cute case.

The Bower Digital Macro Filter Kit includes three close-up diopters of +1, +2 and +4 magnification, a durable leatherette carrying case, a lens cap, and a "cap keeper" strap. These filters simply screw onto the front of any 72mm filter-size lens to magnify the image size while maintaining resolution and picture clarity, effectively transforming your lens into an amazing macro lens. As an added benefit, you get this increase in magnification without any exposure loss for truly no-fuss close-up photography. Plus, these filters are male/female threaded, which means you can combine them to achieve even greater magnification (all the way up to a total of +7 if you wish) -- or you can attach additional standard filters such as polarizers and UV filters, or even special effect and colored filters for even more interesting and creative photographs. >>> These macro close-up filters are ideal for photographing small items and focusing in on details of coins, stamps, flowers, insects, and jewelry -- as well as industrial photos of miniaturized components, medical and dental laboratory work and other scientific photography.

Nice little item to have in my bag. My lenses are 52mm for my Nikon D40, but got some filters from my Minolta 35mm film and they're 55mm. The ring goes on and off pretty smoothly. Been using it for a couple months now and no issues.

Bower FCC58 - Close-up lens kit x 3 Review

This is a great alternative for people with a digital SLR camera who want to take close-ups (Macro) of tiny things like insects and small flowers. I bought it instead of a telescoping Macro lens that costs over $1,000 and a ring light that costs over $1,000. In normal daylight I usually get good exposure but even slightly underexposed shots can be corrected with software. I have taken a couple of pictures in low light situations with my Canon Rebel XT with the flash turned to -2 with good results. Great compromise for under $50!! Even my wife was happy. Oh! The shipment was prompt also.

It really does the work it is advertised to do... and it really does it well!!
It's Bokeh is very good and very pronounced (just as a macro lens would) and it does soften images just a bit (it's Ok for my standards).. The lens is quite heavy and realy picks up handshake though, so it will require a tripod for sharp images...
It produces amazing close ups that I wouldn't have been able to do with my nikkor 18-200 VR lens..
Bottom line: If you have the money to buy a macro, then please do and forget about this lens, but if you are somehow in a budget, then this little piece of glass really shines!!! Highlly recommended!!!

I am very pleased with this product. I had some concerns from reading other reviews, but decided to order anyway. It works great, but you really need to use a tripod, especially with the 10X. The autofocus does not work with these on my camera, but that's OK, because I can still use the manual focus. Great product for the price!

I see that in the negative ratings here the people simply misunderstood what these are for. They are to move your camera in CLOSER to the subject and simulate a macro lens. What they do is essentially act as a magnifying glass. And like one, you need to move it in and out till you find the appropriate distance for it to work properly. This is not a tele-converter.
I find they work quite well. I have had macro lenses in which the subject takes up the sensor, a 1:1 ratio. These however allow for the subject to assault the sensor. Instead of life size these make for race of super giant monster sized. Ultra macro can be achieved with the small expenditure of fifteen bucks.
I find there is no outstanding vignetting or aberrations. At the highest magnifications there is an extremely shallow depth of field, so be sure you are prepared to work with that if you plan on working in those types of magnification.
Overall a great product, and with macro lenses starting at $500, I encourage you to sacrifice just a little of that macro lens fund to just give these a try and see if you can't go spend that extra money saved up on a hot date, camera geek.
